Helistar Helicopters operate on demand scenic flights around the Taupo region, including the Tongariro World Heritage Park. They are located at their flight centre on Huka Falls Rd just five minutes drive north of Taupo.

Our professionally trained pilots specialise in high quality, informative scenic flights that are very personal and enjoyable. All passengers are supplied with headsets so that you can listen to the commentary and talk to the pilot during your flight – please don't hesitate to ask questions; we want you to have fun and discover what makes Taupo special.

Operated by Bruce and Nicole Lilburn, Helistar Helicopters is a family run business specialising in scenic flights and aerial work. Based by the iconic Huka Falls, we are also the proud owners of Hub Café and the iconic Mil-8 helicopter, a sure way to know that you’ve found us!

Huka by Helicopter - 10 minutes
A great introductory flight for those wanting to see Taupo's beauty from the air. Showcasing the famous Huka Falls we then fly over the Lake Taupo boat harbour where you can admire the crystal clear water of the Waikato River before returning to the Helistar Flight Centre via the thermal Wairakei Park - a great flight for kids! Combine with the Hukafalls Jet and do the Hukastar Combo

Taste of Taupo - 18 minutes
This is our most popular flight!  We depart from our Helistar Flight Centre and head out over the famous Huka Falls, Craters of the Moon and the awesome Aratiatia Rapids.  The flight also takes you over Mount Tauhara and includes a landing at Lake Rotokawa where you can get out and explore geothermal activity before heading back to the Helistar Flight Centre.

Taupo's Best - 30 minutes
From our helipad up over Huka Falls down the Waikato river over Aratiatia dam out across Lake Rotokawa geothermal area back over the top of Mt Tauhara with stunning views across the lake to the southern mountains, from there along the Taupo lake front, out to Rangataria Point and the famous rock carvings from there around the beautiful Western Bays of Lake Taupo, back across Kinloch then over Wairakei steam field with another look at Huka Falls just be for landing.    

Tongariro Crossing - 50 minutes
Fly from our helipad over the Huka Falls, up the Waikato River over Taupo township along the eastern shore of Lake Taupo to Turangi, though the saddle to Mt Ngauruhoe’ s crater, across the Tongariro Crossing and Mt Tongariro’ s new crater, over Lake Rotoaira and the hidden Lake Rotopounamu, back up the lake shore over the world renowned fishing rivers Tongariro and Tauranga-Taupo, across to Rangataria Point past the carvings, down the Waikato back to our helipad.

Mountain Magic - 70 minutes (allow 90 minutes)
A flight of a life time starting at Huka Falls, across Taupo township, down the east side of the great lake and then in to the Kaimanawa Ranges where you can enjoy and landing at either an amazing alpine tussock top or the crystal gear waters of the famous Rangitikei River, from there on the word heritage park flying around Mt Tongariro, Mt Ngauruhoe and Mt Ruapehu’ s crater lake, from there you will fly up the western side of the lake with another stop there to stretch your legs and take in a beautiful secluded water fall, back across the bays over Kinloch to Rangataria Point to check out the rock carvings, down the Waikato back to our helipad.

• All scenic flights require a minimum of 2 passengers to confirm the flight. If you are travelling on your own you can still book and we will endeavour to confirm the flight with other passengers
