Fortunately in Kaikoura, there is a resident pod of giant sperm whales that live all year round in the 2km deep trench just off the coast of Kaikoura. During the year the coast is visited by other transient whales but the great thing about Kaikoura is that regardless of when you come to visit there are always giant sperm whales there.
