What you can expect

Discover the wonders of Abel Tasman National Park on a half day Abel Tasman freedom kayak with Golden Bay Kayaks, which is sure to leave you wanting more. Golden Bay is the gateway to the northern end of Abel Tasman, leading you away from the crowds and into quiet and untouched wilderness. This self guided kayak tour provides a taste of the breathtaking scenery that Abel Tasman National park has to offer.

The half day independent kayak hire starts and finishes at Tata Beach in Golden Bay. Before setting off on your adventure, the friendly team at Golden Bay Kayaks provide a safety briefing about kayaking, weather conditions and the area you are about to explore. You are also kitted out with a map, lifejacket, dry bag and safety equipment for the trip. After pushing off from the golden sands of Tata Beach, paddle along the coastline passing interesting rock formations and spotting local wildlife.

From Tata Beach, there is plenty of scenery to explore on the Golden Bay side of Abel Tasman National Park. Make your way past the Tata Islands, where you can spend time bird-watching, looking out for playful seals, finding the shag colony and, if you're lucky, maybe glimpsing the Blue Penguin. This is the perfect way to spend a morning in Golden Bay and the Northern Abel Tasman coastline.
