Visit the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in Blenheim to be swept up in the world of magnificent men (and women) and their flying machines! Featuring two world-class exhibitions, Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre brings aviation history to life and is a must-do while in the Marlborough region. Stories of the rapid development of aviation during two World Wars have captivated thousands of visitors of all ages. So, if you love a good tale, this is the place for you!
Choose between the Knights of the Sky (WW1) and Dangerous Skies (WW2) exhibitions, or perhaps even combine the two for a magical journey through the development of aviation during the two World Wars. There is also the additional option of a guided tour, either private or scheduled/join-in basis.
Knights of the Sky - WW1 Exhibition Knights of the Sky (WW1), the original exhibition at Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, opened in 2006 and is on long-term loan from Sir Peter Jackson. His generosity and vision delivered a series of movie-set-like displays created by WingNut Films and mannequins by Weta Workshop. If you like drama, then an aircraft crashed in the branches of a snowbound tree while two enemy pilots shake hands delivers in spades! The memorabilia at this Blenheim experience is mindblowing and includes items belonging to Germany's Red Baron, Manfred Von Richthofen, WW1's highest-scoring ace.
Dangerous Skies - WW2 Exhibition The Dangerous Skies exhibition opened in December 2016, bringing new and inspirational stories of pilots and their flying machines to life, once again in movie-like scenes. Many of the aircraft featured are exclusive to Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre, and displayed in the theatrical style for which this Blenheim museum is renowned. Currently on display is a De Havilland Mosquito, one of the most iconic fighters of WW2, a P-40 Kittyhawk, and the most famous fighter of them all, the mighty Spitfire, which is not only original but still flies! In addition, the popular Stalingrad Experience is an immersive experience that is both entertaining and chillingly thought-provoking.
Knights of the Sky & Dangerous Skies Exhibitions Combo Combine both exhibitions to experience rare memorabilia, theatrical displays, unique film sets and so much more, all depicting the story of aviation through WW1 & WW2.
