What you can expect
Ever wanted to drive a race car? Well now's your chance! At Highlands you can fulfill this dream with the ultimate self-drive experience - the manual Radical U-Drive (a Le Mans style race car). Undergo a pre-experience safety briefing with your accompanying pro-driver before being kitted out in race boots, race suit and helmet. You will be strapped into the drivers seat by your pro-driver before they climb in the passenger seat next to you, then it's off to Circuit C (1.5KM) for some practice. Here you will complete a couple of warm laps to learn about the race lines and corners before taking on 5 laps of the circuit at speed whilst you receive feedback and guidance from your pro-driver.
The Radical SR3 is a racing car similar to the Le Mans vehicles seen in endurance races. The Radical SR3 exhibits impressive aerodynamic bodywork for maximum downforce, reduced drag and racing slick tyres to deliver on corner speed. The Radical SR3 is fitted with a 6 speed "paddle shift" gearboxes to complement the ultimate race car experience. Relish in the impressive sound created by this highly tuned four-cylinder racing engine as you step on the gas - simply mind-blowing!

- 5 x fast laps of the race track with your pro-driver provided guidance & feedback
- Allow 1 hour
- You must arrive and check in at Highlands at least 15 minutes before your booking time
- Open 10am-4pm daily
- Highlands Motorsport Park, corner SH6 & Sandflat Road, Cromwell (45 minute drive from Queenstown)
- Operates daily all year
- Which course do you use for Radical cars? All cars race on the same purpose-built track, this track was created to make this a challenging and thrilling experience. In total, you have 7 laps to experience the thrill of the race car environment, with a professional race driver who will provide you with guidance and feedback.
- Please note, the U-Drive Experience is weather dependent
- Highlands is located in Cromwell 45 minutes drive from Queenstown
- Please note there is a pre-activity waiver to be read & signed for the U-Drive experiences
- A $2,000 bond will be required. Please provide a credit card at the time of check in for this.
- A good understanding of the English language is a must
- A video record of the activity is available – please request at time of check-in
- Maximum weight is 110kg & maximum height 188cm
- Minimum height is 165cm
- You must hold & produce a current full drivers licence for a manual vehicle
- This experience is not suitable for pregnant women or those suffering from a heart condition
- There is a zero tolerance for alcohol consumption in the period prior to your driving experience and you may be breath tested
- Please note, the V8 Mustang is fitted with hand controls so drivers with limited mobility in their legs can also feel the thrill of speed on the Highlands Track!
