What you can expect
These days, it seems everyone’s bungy jumping off bridges. But it all started with the 43 metres high Kawarau Bridge in Queenstown, the site of the world’s first commercial Bungy Jump.
World-renowned AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand’s original Bungy Jump will have you peering down at the majestic Kawarau River in Queenstown before leaping bravely towards the spectacular scenery below. If the thought of leaping off a bridge doesn’t send your pulse racing, you might want to opt for a dunk in the water, which enables you to be submerged momentarily up to your waist! Now, that’s sure to send your adrenalin levels through the roof!
Jumpers also get to enjoy the use of AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand’s newly refurbished Bungy Centre, watch the Bungy Movie on a 16 inch screen and view stunning scenery and other jumpers taking their turns from the viewing deck with an ice cold beer or piping hot coffee.

- What are the requirements to do a water touch jump at the Kawarau Bridge Bungy? Water touches are available at the Kawarau Bridge Bungy, but whether you're eligible depends on your weight and the river conditions on the day. Just let the team know your preference when you check in—they’ll do their best to accommodate!
- What is the weight limit for the Kawarau Bridge Bungy in Queenstown? The minimum weight is 35kg and the maximum weight is 160kg for a solo jump
- Can I do a tandem jump at the Kawarau Bridge Bungy? Absolutely! Tandem bungy jumping is available at Kawarau Bridge. Both participants must weigh at least 35kg, and the combined weight must be under 235kg with a max 30kg weight difference. Book individually, and request a tandem at check-in.
- Is transport included to the Kawarau Bridge Bungy site? Yes. Complimentary transport is available from central Queenstown. Please contact us if required. If you're self-driving, there’s also plenty of parking available on site—including space for campervans.
- What’s the address for the Kawarau Bridge Bungy if driving? The Kawarau Bridge Bungy Centre is located on State Highway 6, about 20 minutes from central Queenstown. The site is well signposted and includes ample parking.
- Do I have to jump into the water at Kawarau Bridge? No! A water touch is optional. Some jumpers prefer to stay dry. Let the crew know your preference when you check in.
- Can I jump with a GoPro? Yes—but only if it’s securely wrist-mounted and passes a safety check by the jump master. Other mounting options (e.g. head straps) may not be permitted.
- Is the Kawarau Bridge Bungy safe for people over 50? Yes! Bungy jumping in Queenstown is suitable for all ages—there’s no upper age limit. Health permitting, anyone 10 years and older can jump. We’ve had jumpers in their 80s and 90s!
- Can kids do the Kawarau Bridge Bungy? Yes, children as young as 10 years old can jump, as long as they weigh at least 35kg. Parental consent is required for minors.
- How long does the Kawarau Bridge Bungy experience take? If you're taking the Bungy Bus, the round trip from Queenstown is approximately 2.5 hours. Self-drivers can expect to spend around 1–1.5 hours on site.
- Is the Kawarau Bridge Bungy affected by weather? Bungy jumps operate in most conditions, including rain. Only high winds or severe weather might delay or cancel jumps.
- You can jump solo or tandem. Weight restrictions apply for tandem jumps

- You must wear closed-toe footwear (ie runners). No sandals or flip flops
- Dress warmly, the site is sometimes sheltered from the sun
- Minimum age is 10 years with a minimum weight of 35kg to a maximum weight of 160kg for a single jumper
- For tandem bungy each jumper must be between 35kg – 160kg. The maximum combined weight of both jumpers must not exceed 235kg. The weight difference between tandem Jumpers must not exceed 30kg.
- Children 16 years and under must have written consent from a parent or guardian
