The Stewart Island Fly Explore Fly tour departs in the early morning from Queenstown for a 1 hour 15 minute flight to Stewart Island. Soar across the Remarkables in a Glenorchy Air scenic plane and follow the Oreti River towards Invercargill and the Southern Coast. Stewart Island is located just 30 kilometres across the Foveaux Strait, past several smaller islands including Ruapuki Island and Dog Island. Take in the stunning view of Stewart Island’s coastline from your Glenorchy Air aircraft before landing at Ryan’s Creek Aerodrome to explore it in person.
This is an unguided day on Stewart Island where you can choose how to spend your day. From an adventure-packed itinerary to spending a leisurely day birdwatching or walking.

- Pick up from your central Queenstown accommodation or meet at the Genorchy Air desk at Queenstown Airport, Main Terminal Building (near baggage claim)
- Operates daily in summer (Oct-Apr)
- Please note: If booking activities to do during your 5 hours free time, tours should be booked between 10:45am - 3:30pm
- This is an unguided day on Stewart Island - additional activities during your free time are not included in the package
- Child rates apply (3-14yrs)
- Infants (0-2yrs or under 15kgs) travel free of charge
- With the time available we recommend a maximum of 2 activities on Stewart Island
- Wear comfortable shoes and dress according to the weather
- Bring a warm layer, rain jacket, spending money (for lunch & souvenirs), picnic lunch (if preferred) & camera
- You can bring a small day bag on the plane with you
- Lunch is not included, we recommend fresh fish and chips from the Kai Kart (additional cost)
- Flight times and routes are subject to weather conditions
- Please provide your weight when booking - seating will be determined by weights and balance restrictions on the aircraft
- If your flight is cancelled due to bad weather you can reschedule or contact us for a full refund
