One of the best days of the holiday. Wonderfully impressive sites, a real experience. Thoroughly enjoyed walking around here, looking at the stunning pools and sometimes just sitting and listening to the birds. The cafe and shop were good too!
What you can expect
Rotorua’s world-class guided experience and cultural performance.
This exhilarating combo extends on from our Te Rā experience by adding a captivating cultural performance in our beautifully carved meeting house, Te Aronui a Rua. It will include a pohiri (traditional Maori welcome), waiata (song), moteatea (traditional chant), poi and haka.
The Te Rā guided experience features a 90-minute walk through our geothermal valley, where you’ll visit the Pohutu Geyser, the Kiwi Conservation Centre, and the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute.
Along the way, our knowledgeable kaiarahi (guides) will share their Maori traditions, heritage, and ancestral stories, offering unique insights into our rich culture.

What you need to know
- 1.5 hour Te Ra Guided Experience
- 40 minute Haka - Maori Cultural Performance
- Tour of the geothermal valley (including the Pohutu Geyser)
- Entry to the Kiwi Conservation Centre
- Demonstrations of flax weaving and wood, stone & bone carving at the New Zealand Maori Arts & Crafts Institute
- See a reconstructed traditional Maori Village - Pikirangi Village
- Knowledgeable & friendly guide
- This experience takes for approximately 2 hours.
- 9:30am & 11:30am
- Te Rā Guided Experience runs every 30 minutes from 9:00am - 2:30pm
- Haka Cultural Performance starts at 11:30am
- Departs from Hemo Road, Rotorua (approx 2.5km from central Rotorua)
- Operates daily all year

- Please wear comfortable shoes & appropriate clothes for walking
- Children must be accompanied by an adult
- You may cancel your bookings at any time prior to making full payment without any penalty, unless otherwise specified.
- If you cancel your bookings after making full payment, our refund policy applies.
- If cancellation is allowed, notification is required 24 hours prior to arrival.
- Failure to do so may result in a 50% penalty fee of total costs.
- In the case of unexpected events or for visitor safety reasons, Te Puia can not be held accountable to the unavailability of any products or services. We will, however, take reasonable steps to keep you informed.
