What you can expect

Take an evening walk through Rotorua’s Te Whakarewarewa geothermal valley and experience the landscape in a whole new light on the Marama: Geyser Light Trail. As night falls, the valley transforms into a luminous world of colour, sound and storytelling, offering a unique Rotorua geothermal experience under the stars and a chance to experience the magic of this New Zealand landscape in a completely unique way.

This hosted outdoor experience blends artistry, light and Maori culture across a 1.5km trail. Journey through ten light-filled scenes inspired by nature and tradition, guided by the voice and music of local artist Maisey Rika. Wander from the vibrant, festival-like entrance into the tranquil valley, where geysers, bubbling mud and steaming vents are illuminated in a spectrum of light. Along the way, learn about the cultural and geological significance of Te Puia’s geothermal features, including the powerful Pohutu Geyser – the largest in the southern hemisphere.

Out of all the geothermal walks Rotorua has to offer, the Marama: Geyser Light Trail brings this dramatic landscape to life in the most magical and multi-sensory way.
