These mighty rivers are regarded as the best in New Zealand for rafting trips, and this epic combo is only available for 26 days in summer due to dam releases - so get in there quick! Start off in Tauranga by navigating boulder gardens and waterfalls with your Kaituna Cascades guide on the Wairoa River. Then head back to Rotorua for rafting on the Kaituna River, which features the highest commercially rafted waterfall in the world, the 7 metre Tutea Falls.

What you need to know

Inclusions
  • 1.5 - 2 hours rafting on the Wairoa River
  • 50 minutes rafting on the Kaituna River
  • Optional return transport from Rotorua
  • Safety equipment - wetsuit, booties, helmet, life jackets, paddles, warm fleece tops & splash jackets

  • Allow a full day (8.5 hours)
Departure Location
  • 8:30am
  • Pick up from central Rotorua or self drive to the Wairoa River, 1378 Highway 29, just outside Tauranga
  • Operates 26 days in summer (Oct-May)
Additional Information
  • The Wairoa River base is located 15 minutes from Tauranga, or 50 minutes self drive from Rotorua
  • Kaituna Cascades and the Kaituna River base are located at 18 Okere Falls Road, Okere Falls, Rotorua
  • Return transport from Rotorua leaves at 8:30am
  • If self driving to Wairoa River, meet at the river base at 9:30am
  • Please bring your swimwear & a towel
  • This tour only runs for 26 days per year due to dam releases
  • GoPros are permitted on the river provided you are wearing a chest harness
  • Minimum age 13yrs+
  • Maximum weight 120kg
  • Basic swimming skills and reasonable fitness required
  • This tour is not suitable for pregnant women
  • Minimum of 4 passengers required for tour to go ahead
  • Photos available for purchase after your trip
