This was a great tour and we saw lots of birds. Natasha our guide was very knowledgeable and made this a very enjoyable experience.

What you can expect

Stewart Island is truly nature’s wonderland. Explore the fantastic township of Oban – New Zealand’s southernmost community – and the stunning surrounding areas, on your village and bay tour.

Jump on one of the comfortable and modern mini buses and get your camera ready, because you are about to experience one of New Zealand’s most beautiful areas. While you drive around, admiring the gorgeous scenery, your friendly and entertaining guide will regale you with stories about the local area, the people, the history and environment of this stunning Island. The slow, simple lifestyle of this quaint little town is a point of pride amongst the locals, but they still love inviting visitors in to share knowledge, take photographs and enjoy the plethora of scenic walks available in this gorgeous area.

The guides are also passionate about showing you the best of Stewart Island and its surrounds, and allow you plenty of opportunity to ask questions and explore the points of interest along the way. Among these points of interest, you will visit the stunning Rakiura National Park entrance at Lee Bay, admire beautiful Horseshoe Bay and stand in awe of the amazing views of Paterson Inlet from Observation Rock.

In order to take this wonderful tour, you will need to make your own way to Stewart Island. There are ferries departing daily from Bluff and these can be booked on the day or online.

Excellent staff! Loved the experience and knowledge of the guide. Saw and heard many birds including the nearly extinct saddleback. The commitment and work involved to create and maintain this piece of paradise is amazing.
