What you can expect

Take on one of New Zealand's most exciting white water rafting adventures as you tackle the legendary Tongariro River. With over 60 fun-filled rapids packed into a 13km stretch of river, this Grade 3 rafting experience delivers the perfect mix of thrills, scenery and family-friendly adventure. No rafting experience is needed, with professional guides coaching every paddle command to keep the trip safe, enjoyable and action-packed.

Paddle through crystal-clear waters, surrounded by native bush and dramatic volcanic cliffs, as you conquer exhilarating rapids and calmer scenic sections. Spend a thrilling two to two-and-a-half hours on the water, then head back to base for a hot shower and the chance to view photos from your adventure. Ideal for first-timers, families and thrill-seekers alike, this is an unforgettable way to experience the natural beauty and excitement of the Central North Island.

What you need to know

  • Two-hour Grade 3 white water rafting experience
  • Wetsuits and all safety gear
  • Professional rafting guides
  • Photos are available for purchase after the trip.
  • Summer departures at 9am and 2pm (1 November to 31 March)
  • April departures at 9am and 1pm (1 to 30 April)
  • Winter departures at 1pm only (1 May to 31 October)
  • This experience is approximately four hours in total duration
  • Approximately two to two-and-a-half hours on the water
  • This experience departs from Tongariro River Rafting, 133 Atirau Road, Tūrangi 3334.
  • Swimwear and a towel
  • Any necessary emergency medications
  • Minimum age is 11 years old
  • Each child aged 11 to 12 years must be accompanied by one adult
  • Trips may be changed or cancelled for weather, river conditions, or client suitability
  • The operator cannot guarantee safety or accept liability for injury or loss if instructions aren’t followed
  • Change your booking up to 48 hours before the start time of your experience
  • Changes are not permitted within 48 hours of your experience
  • Late arrivals or no-shows may result in you forfeiting your experience
  • Confirmation in the form of a tour voucher will be received at time of booking
  • Upon completion of purchase, please print the voucher and present on day of the experience
