The Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail is a popular bike trail in Central Otago with fantastic views of Lake Dunstan and the mountainous Pisa Range. Cycle the trail from Cromwell to Clyde (42km) or Smiths Way to Clyde (55km) with Wanaka Bike Tours providing bike hire and shuttle services. Choose either an e-bike or standard bike (we recommend an e-bike!) and catch the shuttle from Cromwell to the start of the trail, with return transport included.
Located in Cromwell, just 50 minutes from Queenstown or 40 minutes from Wanaka, the Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail features plenty of highlights throughout the ride. Along the way, make sure to stop off at the floating coffee and burger bar, a completely unique addition to the Dunstan bike trail. At the top of each climb (there are two large climbs in particular), take a breather and admire incredible views of Lake Dunstan, the Kawarau River and Cromwell Gorge. There is also a magnificent 85 metre swing bridge, known as ‘The Hugo Bridge’, on the Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail route.
Whether you require bike hire, shuttle services or both, Wanaka Bike Tours offer standard and e-bike hire (including helmets), return shuttles from Cromwell, and a shuttle service between the start and finish of the trail. You are also provided with a thorough briefing on what to expect throughout the Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail. While this 42-55 km trail is not suitable for beginners, it is a fantastic ride with varied terrain and a must-do for intermediate cyclists in Central Otago.
Had to be cancelled due to the weather conditions. We will certainly be back to try again!
