After 3 previous attempts to do this trip the weather was absolutely stunning which made this trip especially the flying part so amazing, Well worth the money.
This is a totally awesome tour. The flights there and back give the most spectacular scenery, excellent photo opportunities and the pilot tells you what you are flying over. The actual Milford Sound cruise is really good. Free tea, coffee or water throughout the entire cruise, other refreshments available to be purchased. Again stunning scenery and waterfalls.
It would be almost sacrilege to visit Wanaka without taking a look at Milford Sound. This nationally treasured area is a breathtaking example of New Zealand’s natural beauty, and the Milford Flight and Cruise by Southern Alps Air is one of the best ways to see it!
This amazing combination is one of the top options available for seeing the amazing contrast between Lake Wanaka and Milford Sound – as well as the stunning alpine regions, glaciers, Olivine Ice Plateau, rain forests, the majestic Sutherland Falls and Mount Aspiring along the way. From your guaranteed window seat, you will be awestruck by the views of the magnificent towering peaks, standing tall out of the icy blue water. The aerial vistas of snow-capped mountains, cascading waterfalls and ancient forests will conjure up feelings of returning to a pristine, pre-human era and will leave you totally spellbound. The interesting commentary by your flight captain will give you a thorough understanding of the primary features you see.
Your forty minute flight to Milford Sound will take you over Mt Aspiring and the Glaciers, while the forty minute return flight (following your cruise) will take you over the Milford Track and Sutherland Falls.
The intensity of the beauty from the plane is equalled – if not surpassed – by the amazing scenery from the Mitre Peak Cruises boat deck. As the two hour scenic cruise ripples the glassy surface of Milford Sound, you will see exactly what makes this area one of the most beautiful areas in the world. Soaring peaks, lush rainforest, cascading waterfalls – it’s like something out of an inspirational poster! You might even spot some of the curious dolphins, sea lions and other wildlife that lives in Milford Sound, so keep your eyes peeled.
This is truly an experience not to be missed. Don’t forget to bring your camera either, as this is definitely an extremely photogenic area.
Due to weather cancelled three days in a row. Not the companies fault but can’t rate them.
