Description
Departing from the Rotorua Lake Front, soar high above the beautiful region and onwards to the sacred Mount Tarawera.
As you hover to land on the edge of New Zealand’s largest ever volcanic eruption in living memory, you’ll be awestruck by the sheer size of the impact this eruption has on the traditional Maori communities living nearby at the time.
Shortly after midnight on the 10th June 1886, the region was shaken by multiple earthquakes as Mt Tarawera’s three peaks erupted. Lava spewed down the sides of the mountain forming pyroclastic surges, the remnants of which are still visible today.
This scenic and informative heli tour is perfect for families and kids, or anyone who would love to explore the mountain tops without committing to a full day tramping trip. Your experienced pilot will land in the perfect spot to safely explore the surrounding area and connect with this magnificent mountain that towers above the Rotorua region.
The scenic flights to and from the volcano take in expansive views of the stunning Lakes District and National Parks
