Received a voucher as gift for our honeymoon - decided to use it on Heli Line Glacier trip which was one of main attractions we wanted to do on this once in a lifetime trip for us. (We are from Ireland so chances of us getting here again are slim.)
Contacted Everything New Zealand made booking, received confirmation -in one section of email it said call provider 24hrs prior to confirm flight and on the confirm attached it said to call 30mins before. This was confusing.
Called Heli Line to be advised our seats were weight dependant this was not stated on confirmation - if it had I would have followed up immediately we were planning our trip around this booking. Too late to resolve on the day.
Went to Heli Line was told we were too heavy. ( we are medium build people but obviously combined weight of us and 4 others it did not come under weight restriction) Got rebooked for a flight that eve on confirmed seats - flight did not fly due to weather. Same occurred the next day. We lost a whole day of our trip due to the booking not being confirmed as stated but weight dependant.
Weather morning of our "booked" trip was ideal conditions - had the booking been confirmed as expected not weight dependant we would have had our experience. We are so disappointed - if we had not used this voucher we would have move to another provider who had space on flights that did run that morning.
Contacted Everything New Zealand told them of issue, they were helpful but it was all a little too late.
First response they did respond saying first flight Heli Line had advised was cancelled due to weather - I advised this was incorrect information the "confirmed seats" had been weight dependant we had signed the flight manifest and had seeno our names be removed with combined weight was too much. They responded again saying that was information they were given.
We got our voucher reloaded, used it on Skyline Dinner in Queenstown which was nice but we are still utterly disappointed that we never got our Glacier flight and had it been booked correctly the first time we would have.
More of a sting followed when we moved on and found out there were flights from Wanaka and Queenstown to other Glaciers available had we known this we may not have lost a day in Franz Josef.

Latest Questions about Helicopter Flights - Franz Helicopter Line (Franz Josef)
Hi
Where does the helicopter land on the Mountain Spectacular trip?
Thanks
Comments
Heya, The heli could land at one of five landing sites, depending on weather conditions. Most commonly they land on either the Fox Neve or the Geike (a snow field at the top of Franz Josef glacier).
Hi does the Twin Glacier Helicopter ride have a snow landing included?
Also could you take 6 passengers
Comments
Yes, the Twin Glacier Helicopter flight does include a snow landing. It's an amazing flight with unbelievable views.
Do you Fly from Franz Josep to Te Anau on Jan.1,2016/and ,if so, what cost for 2 adults?
Comments
The short answer is yes. However, it is weather dependent and costly. You'll need to charter a helicopter from Franz to Te Anau and pay for both ways as the heli needs to get back to Franz Josef. It's 2.7 hours flying time there and back so the price would be in the vicinity of $10,000. That would of course give you access to the entire heli which holds up to 6 passengers (max combined weight is 500kg). It's also important to note that given the weather on the west coast and Fiordland is variable at best, there would be no guarantees of flying until the morning of the flight. That being said, it is doable and the flight would be absolutely spectacular so if you are still interested then please let me know and I can go ahead and get an exact quote for you.
Hello, How far in advance should we book a flight (2 adults, 3 children)?
Comments
Hi Valentine. The scenic helicopter flights at Franz Josef are very weather dependent and can get cancelled quite regularly. As such they are often booked up several weeks in advance. I do recommend booking for your first day in Franz so that if the weather is no good for flying you can reschedule to another day or receive a full refund from us. Can I ask what dates were you considering and I can check the availability for you?
Hi, can you tell me please how many people can the Helicopter take for a tour at one time.
Thanks.
Comments
Hi Zilpha, the Franz helicopters can fit up to 6 passengers at once.

Hey there,
Thanks for the review, we appreciate your feedback and sharing your experience with us. We ask customers to confirm the booking 24 hours prior so that operator can re-confirm check-in details with you, this assures that customers know exactly where they need to be and when and are fully aware of anything they may need to bring on a trip. For flights, you are required to contact them on the day for a final weather check as the weather changes a lot in these environments, so we ask customers to call up and get an update before then go to the base. We apologise once again for this issue, as already discussed the information on weight dependant seats was not mentioned to us at the point of booking as we would have then collected your weight to ensure this was a confirmed booking, which was what we were also led to believe. Unfortunately, human errors do happen, but sadly on this occasion Helicopter Line did find it difficult to correct this due to the bad weather.
Aside from this disappointment, we hope you had a lovely evening up at the Skyline gondola for dinner, its a fantastic view!
