The Rakiura Great Walk is one of New Zealand’s top great tramping trips. This Port William leg is a 3-5 hour hike one way if you take advantage of the scheduled water taxi departures with Rakiura Charters.
Departing from Halfmoon Bay, this stunning coastal water taxi trip with full commentary will introduce the area before dropping you off at the historical Port William Wharf. From here, you will meander through the Rakiura National Park forest, discovering ancient bush, native wildflife and historic settlements.
The birdlife in this region is some of the most spectacular in New Zealand. With a minimum number of introduced pests, the native birds have continued to flourish.
Once you arrive at Lee Bay, you can either book a water taxi back to Oban (additional cost on the day) or continue walking along local roads before arriving back on foot. Adding the Horseshoe Point Headland loop walk adds another 1.5 hours to your trek.
