Join a Lake Marian guided day hike from Te Anau and explore one of Fiordland’s hidden alpine lakes. Nestled in a hanging valley, Lake Marian sits at an elevation of 695 metres and is surrounded by towering mountains. This 5 hour return hike includes time to take in the scenery and enjoy a packed picnic lunch at the lake’s edge.
Your day begins with pick-up from your Te Anau accommodation before travelling along the Milford Road, with photo stops to take in the Fiordland National Park scenery. Arriving at the Lake Marian Track, the hike starts with a gentle riverside bush walk before climbing through native forests of fuchsia, ribbonwood and beech trees. The 6.5km return track has a 420m elevation gain, requiring a moderate to high level of fitness.
Along the way, your expert guide from Fiordland Tours will share insights into the local flora and fauna. When you arrive at Lake Marian, enjoy time to explore, relax and take in the alpine scenery. If you're feeling brave, you could even take a refreshing swim! A packed picnic lunch is provided and morning tea with fresh baking is served at a scenic stop during the hike.
