About the Coromandel Peninsula 
 
Jutting up northwards to protect the Hauraki Gulf and nearby Auckland from the storms of the Pacific, the Coromandel Peninsula is a strip of land with a mountainous spine providing a spectacular and rugged western coastline dropping into the sea complemented by countless bays and coves with sandy beaches framed with white cliffs on the east.
