Kayaking - Cathedral Cove Kayak Tours Coromandel
Kayaking - Cathedral Cove Kayak Tours
The spectacular Cathedral Cove is an idyllic paradise along the Coromandel Peninsula. Crystal clear water laps white sands, while majestic arches dot the landscape. The Cathedral itself is an impressive arched cavern that is located on the headland in between two coves, whose sandy floor is only accessible via water. An ancient Maori fortified village (called a pa) once sat atop the headland, overlooking the New Zealand Christmas trees (pohutukawa), the clean, white sand and the pinnacle of pumice breccia (Te Hoho).
All of this and more is within your view as you kayak along the volcanic coastline, stroll along the beach and splash around in the water. With modern kayaking equipment, qualified, friendly guides, thorough instructional training and a passion for the Coromandel Peninsula, Cathedral Cove Kayaking Tours invite you to join them on one of their fantastic tour options.
The Cathedral Cove Classic Tour (our specialty tour) - 3.5 hours
The Cathedral Cove Classic Tour is an all-encompassing eco-adventure that has been rated as one of the best sea kayaking trips in the country by New Zealand's leading tour companies. You will explore beaches, rock gardens, islands and sea caves within the wonderful Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve. You will have the chance to interact with some of the area’s gorgeous marine life and enjoy trying your hand at a bit of kayak sailing. When you enter the amazing Cathedral Cove, a serving of world famous cappuccinos and hot chocolates will delight you!
The Remote Coast Tour - 3.5 hours
This three-hour paddling adventure has been designed to appeal to the more adventurous kayakers out there. You will head ‘off the beaten track’ to rarely accessed areas of the coastline. You will see impressive sea caves, hidden tunnels and paradisiacal islands, as well as the majestic volcanic cliffs that have been shaped by the movement of the ocean over millions of years. When you stop for a break, your refreshments will taste a little more interesting, served inside one of the most amazing blowholes in New Zealand.
The Big Day in the Bay - 6 hours
If you can’t get enough of this magical area, then a Big Day in the Bay tour is for you. You will explore the same volcanic coastline as the Cathedral Cove Classic and Remote Coast tours all in one day. Enter blowholes and sea caves that are only accessible thanks to Cathedral Cove Kayaking Tours’ modern sea kayaks. Land on Mahurangi Island (when conditions allow) – which is preserved by the Department of Conservation – and make your way over to see the unbelievably beautiful views of Mercury Bay. This adventure is definitely one for the photo book!
