The tour was wonderful! Barry was an excellent tour guide and lots of fun. My daughter and I learned a lot and loved all of the personal stories included. Although it’s a long tour, it’s beautiful, relaxing and informative. Well worth the money and time!

What you can expect

At the very top of the North Island of New Zealand, there is an oasis of unrivalled beauty – Cape Reinga (Te Rerenga Wairua in Māori). This amazingly scenic area is a must-see for those who want to experience the wonder of Māori tradition and culture, as well as for those who just want a great, fun-filled day.

Setting off from Paihia, hop on the coach and travel north to Taipa while your passionately knowledgeable driver regales you with the amazing history and legends of the region. Enjoy a lovely morning snack at Taipa before heading over to Cape Reinga – the upmost tip of Aotearoa (New Zealand).

The climb up to the iconic Cape Reinga Lighthouse allows you to view the tremendously powerful waves below you, as the Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea collide. Enjoy your lunch at a scenic beachfront cafe, with the choice of fish & chips (pan-fried on request), a gourmet steak & cheese pie or a seasonal salad with garlic bread. Heading along Te Paki Stream, you encounter the mammoth sand dunes that the area is popular for; and what are sand dunes good for? Sand surfing of course! The effort of walking up the huge sand dunes is well rewarded by the fast, fun filled journey back down on your provided board. Simply awesome!

Driving along the almost untouched 90 mile beach makes you feel as though you are exploring a deserted tropical island! The golden sand seems to stretch on forever and you wonder if the beach is 90 miles or 900 miles. When you stop, you will have the chance to dig for shellfish (conditions permitting) and enjoy the sun, sand and surf. As you head back to the Bay you will come to realise why Te Rerenga Wairua is so important to the Māori people. This tour also includes a delicious locally prepared lunch to keep you fueled for a full day of adventures.
