What you can expect
Experience the Discovery Pools at Ōpuke Thermal Pools and Spa - the ultimate family-friendly hot pool adventure. Located 1 hour 20 minutes from Christchurch, Opuke Hot Pools offers relaxation and rejuvenation for visitors of all ages. Depending on your plans, choose between a 2 hour or 4 hour hot pools pass.
Explore the stars of Matariki in our ana (cave), gently flow in our lazy river, take a leap of faith from Jump Point, dare yourself to a cold plunge, or simply sit back and soak in the views from our observation lagoon. Discovery has something for everyone.
Opuke Thermal Pools and Spa is the perfect spot to take the family after a busy day exploring Methven or Christchurch. Just 30 minutes from the Mt Hutt ski field access road and 1.5 hours from Christchurch, you won't be short of things to do in the area.
If you're looking for an adult-exclusive hot pool experience, check out the Tranquility Pools (38.5 degrees), including a swim up bar experiences instead.

What you need to know
- 2 hours at Opuke's Discovery Pools
- Complimentary robe & towel hire
- Aqua Play Zone including a "leap of faith" plunge pool & "crazy river"
- Family-friendly atmosphere
- Allow 2 hours
- Every hour between 10am - 6pm
- Check in at Opuke Thermal Pools & Spa on Mount Hutt Station Rd, Methven (1 hour 20 minutes from Christchruch)
- Operates daily all year
- Child rates apply (3-15yrs). Infants under 3yrs are free of charge
- Please bring suitable swimwear, a towel & a change of clothes
- Approved swimming nappy must be worn by children aged under 3 years of age and those recently toilet trained when using the pools (these can be purchased from reception)
- Please note smoking & vaping is not permitted at any time in any areas of the facility
