This amazing day trip really lives up to its name – Perfect Day! The spectacular Poor Knights Islands are a wonderland of discovery, waiting to be explored by you, so why not jump in a kayak, explore a cave, go snorkelling or just relax and take in the sights on this incredible adventure.
Dive Tutukaka offer this ultimate, non-diving trip on their extremely well-fitted out boat, which is fully licensed and surveyed, and manned by a professional skipper and fantastic, friendly crew. This custom-built boat offers indoor and outdoor seating, air-conditioning and plenty of shading, two levelled decks (including upstairs viewing) and an amazing live, underwater ‘fish cam’ that feeds live shots directly into the boat!
During your trip, you will be able to partake in a series of wonderful experiences, including sight-seeing, sea-mammal and other wildlife spotting, kayaking, snorkelling, swimming and cave exploration, as well as learning about the amazing history and facts about the incredible Poor Knights Islands area. To top it all off, you will indulge in a delicious buffet lunch!
Your Perfect Day Upon arrival, you will jump aboard the luxurious multi-deck vessel in Tutukaka. Within 15 minutes, you will be developing your sea legs on the 23 km open ocean trip to the islands. The views are vast and amazing on this journey, and you will be stunned at the beauty of this delightful area.
When you arrive at the Poor Knight Islands and dock in a sheltered area, you will be taken on a tour that highlights the Islands most spectacular features – including a look inside the world’s largest sea cave! Enjoy your lunch and complimentary tea, coffee and soup while you take in the incredible vistas. You can then enjoy all of the available activities, such as kayaking around the caves and arches.
After a perfect day out, and maybe even some dolphin spotting, you will arrive back at Tutukaka, where you can travel on to your next destination or relax in one of Tutukaka’s waterholes. The perfect end to your perfect day.

- Will there be at least two sites where we can snorkel at Poor Knights Islands on the Perfect Day boat tour? There are over 60 named anchorage sites at Poor Knights Islands. On your Perfect Day boat tour, the Dive Tutukaka crew will decide where to anchor depending on the conditions. If you only anchor in one location that day, there are still plenty of opportunities to explore different sites by utilising the kayaks and SUP on offer.
- Can we spend most of our time kayaking and snorkelling once we arrive at Poor Knights Islands on the Perfect Day boat tour? On the Perfect Day boat tour, you are welcome to spend as much time kayaking and snorkelling as you like once the boat has anchored in a safe location at Poor Knights Islands.
- Can I go scuba diving on the Perfect Day boat tour to Poor Knights Islands with Dive Tutukaka? To book scuba diving at Poor Knights Islands, please click here instead. The Perfect Day boat tour includes snorkelling, kayaking and SUP activities only.
- During winter (June - Oct), the Perfect Day tour operates on a smaller boat at an earlier departure
- The boat trip out to the Poor Knights Islands takes about 40 minutes
