Experience the ultimate animal adventure at Orana Wildlife Park in Christchurch - NZ's only open range zoo.

Orana Park in Christchurch specialises in providing amazing animal encounters – visitors can see NZ’s only gorillas, hand feed giraffe, meet rhino ‘face-to-face’, travel through the Lion Habitat (additional cost/conditions apply), see kiwi and meet mischievous kea.

Scheduled presentations occur daily and visitors can enjoy the antics of painted dogs, cheetah, lace monitors, monkeys, meerkats and more. The extensive NZ fauna section at this Christchurch zoo includes a range of native birds and reptiles and visitors can meet friendly domestic animals in the Farmyard.

Christchurch's Orana Wildlife Park takes part in breed for release programmes for threatened NZ native wildlife including kiwi, whio, pāteke, orange-fronted parakeet and Maud Island frogs. When you visit you are directly supporting this work.

Departure Location
  • The Zoo is open from 10am - 5pm (last entrance 4pm, but we say to allow 3-5 hours to enjoy the experience)
  • Orana Wildlife Park, 793 McLeans Island Road, Christchurch (30 minute drive from central Christchurch)
  • Operates daily all year
Additional Information
  • Child rates apply (5-15yrs)
  • Children under 5 years old are free of charge
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult
  • Visit the Lion Encounter (at additional cost)
  • Christchurch transfers can be arranged for an additional fee. Please contact us for more information
  • Numerous picnic areas with BBQ facilities for your convenience
  • There is a cafe available to purchase food & drink on site as well as a souvenir shop
  • Wear comfortable walking footwear 
  • Wheelchairs are free to use, on a first-in, first-served basis
  • Child push chair/buggy hire $10 per day plus a $10 bond ($20 for a double push chair)
