A Starry Night with Silver River Stargazing
Nestled amidst the stunning landscapes of New Zealand lies Lake Tekapo, a small town known for its natural beauty and impressive night sky. Here, I experienced stargazing with Silver River, where wonders await those who dare to look up.
New Zealand has some of the clearest and darkest skies in the world, making it a top spot for astronomers and amateur stargazers alike. I would say I fall into the latter category, and this tour was perfect for me!
To start the night off, the friendly team at Silver River welcomed us and provided cosy jackets. We then ventured out of the town lights, and I was instantly greeted by the spectacular night sky.
With commentary from our expert guide, we explored the night sky, learning about the different stars and constellations that presented themselves. From the Southern Cross to the Teapot, and how each one has a story rooted in Maori mythology and science.
As we immersed ourselves in the night sky, I felt a profound sense of awe. I even had the opportunity to see the stars up close and marvel at the magical moon, which glittered in the sky through the telescope.
Silver River Stargazing is an unforgettable experience that I would recommend to everyone visiting the South Island.
