Queenstown’s golf courses are unmatched anywhere else in the world. New Zealand’s premier golf magazine, The Cut, has dubbed Millbrook, the Original Arrowtown Course and Kelvin Heights, the best three alpine courses in all of New Zealand. With the addition of Jacks Point, you now have four top-notch courses to choose from. Queenstown is already widely recognised around the world as an excellent skiing vacation spot, and The Cut predicts that it will soon gain world recognition as a major golf destination as well. As it stands, Queenstown’s popularity as a golf retreat has already reached tremendous levels, and it’s easy to see why.
Queenstown Golf Course
Situated at Kelvin Heights, the Queenstown Golf Club was not long ago voted the most scenic golf course in New Zealand and has an international reputation as one of the world’s most breathtaking locations for golfers. Engulfed by the magnificent Remarkable Mountain Range and situated by the turquoise waters of the pristine Lake Wakatipu, it is nothing short of breathtaking.
Queenstown Golf Club offers the special challenge of playing on wavy terrain against a backdrop of pine trees. The fifth hole will have you playing across from the stunning Lake Wakatipu and has become a bit of an icon and one of New Zealand’s most photographed holes.
Arrowtown Golf Course
Arrowtown Golf Club is located in scenic Central Otago, famed in New Zealand for being steeped in history and stunning scenery. Set against a backdrop of mountain peaks, the eighteen hole course offers incredible views from every single fairway. Each hole at the club is marked by its own scenic attraction and the difficult but rewarding course has players the world over clamouring to try it. Views of historic ruins of stone cottages amidst imposing trees serve as a reminder of the intrepid pioneers who settled in Arrowtown.
Arrowtown’s connection with the goldmining era is reflected in the nomenclature of its holes. Golden Arrow and Sons of Fortune allude to the pioneering spirit that once permeated the formerly wealthy, gold-yielding Arrow River. What started as a nine hole course in 1937 expanded in 1970 to become an eighteen hole course. The Arrowtown golf course is 5,327 metres on the mens card at par 70 for men and par 71 for women.
Millbrook Resort
Millbrook Resort’s championship course offers incredible views at every turn, as well as five tee positions suited to golfers of all skill levels. The eighteen hole course was expertly designed by Sir Bob Charles and has been upgraded with numerous new features, including a stunning additional nine holes courtesy of Greg Turner slated for opening this summer.
Challenging for golfers of all handicaps, the course boasts one of the world’s most remarkable international golf arenas. With its immaculate greens and fairways, challenging hazards and tortuous water courses, all set amidst jaw-dropping views of the Remarkables Mountain Range, the Millbrook Resort provides all golfers with an unforgettable experience.
Jack’s Point Golf Club
Set against an impressive backdrop composed of the vast Remarkables Mountain Range at a height of 2,300 metres, and offering a visual smorgasbord which includes the stunning lakes and mountains of the area, Jack’s Point Golf Course offers not only a feast for the eyes but also a challenging eighteen hole par 72 championship course that golfers of all levels of experience will be eager to try. The course cooperates with the forces of nature rather than going against the natural landscape to offer a superior golfing experience. Designed to minimise excavation, the course, which measures 6,388 metres or 7,088 yards, is constructed on some of the most beautiful terrain on Jack’s Point and will have you playing on wide open stretches of tussock grassland, impressive rock formations, precipitous banks and large swathes of bushland to the shores of Lake Wakatipu.
