Description
Jump on your electric bike and enjoy a fun, light hearted and engaging tour of New Zealand's capital city, Wellington. Departing from the Waterfront, just a short walk from central Wellington, you will set out on a journey to enjoy picturesque panoramic views of Wellington's spectacular scenery and discover it's colourful history.
The electric bikes are easy to use and suitable for any level of fitness, if you can ride a bike you can ride the electric bikes! At the beginning of the day your guide will brief you, kit you out in your safety gear and provide you with full instruction on how to use the bikes. By exploring Wellington and its surrounding areas by electric bike, you can take in a lot in a short period of time. You'll feel energised choosing an active way to get around the city while you're visiting and the hills will be a breeze on the electric assisted bikes.
Electric Bays Guided Tour
The Electric Bays Guided Tour is a half day trip where your guide will navigate you from the Waterfront to Wellington's quiet bays. You will cruise past Oriental Bay and as you travel further and further out of the city the views will get increasingly spectacular. On your arrival to Miramar Peninsula you will take a break at a local cafe with exceptional views before heading on to the amazing look out point of Mt Victoria.
Self Guided Full Tour
This is a great full day tour where you can travel at your own pace throughout the day. You will be given instructions and a cycle map and left to your own devices to discover whatever you wish to! Maybe you'll head to the bays, hit the view points or head to Te Papa Museum?
One of our most popular routes starts by travelling along the Waterfront close to the city centre and then on toward Miramar Peninsula. If you have an extreme sense of adventure take road routes to special spots around Wellington and set the bike to full-power to cruise up to the best panoramic lookouts such as Mt Victoria.
Another option is Pencarrow Lighthouse, a popular destination accessed by the East by West Ferry that goes to Days Bay. Following the coast you take a dirt road toward an historic lighthouse that you can climb up to. Here you can look out across the harbour toward Wellington City. If you're lucky you will see seals and other wildlife.
The Rimutaka Rail Trail can be explored by taking the bikes on a train then riding from Maymorn to Featherston, this is a world class track well away from the city. Pack your lunch, take your camera and ride the old railway line taking in the New Zealand forest and history. While waiting for the return train, you can check out Featherston's local stores and museums. You could even stay the night and explore the local wineries the next day. Let us know when you book if you're interested in this option and we'll provide you with the best bike and schedule for your adventure.
