Join River Journeys on a spectacular half day wilderness jet boating adventure in the unbeatable scenery of World Heritage Mount Aspiring National Park. 

Marvel at the sights and inhale the fresh air as you travel past waterfalls and Lord of the Rings film locations on the pristine glacier fed waters of the Matukituki River towards towards Mount Aspiring. Brace yourself and enjoy the ride as your driver navigates the shallow and braided river system by sliding over the river doing 360 degree spins and reaching speeds of up to 80kmph. Along the way, take in the peaceful stops in deep pools for amazing photos. See river birds and if the conditions are right, keep your eyes peeled for trout. This is an authentic wilderness jet boating experience like no other!

Deep in the mountainous terrain, leave the jet boat for a scenic 50 minute walk into true New Zealand wilderness. This is a trip highlight and an opportunity to experience nature like never before. Walk through ancient beach forests along glacial fed streams to a waterfall and listen as your local guide shares with you the incredible history of this natural wonderland. Wanaka River Journeys is the only jet boat company in New Zealand to see Mount Aspiring and glaciers making it a must do event when you are visiting Queenstown and Wanaka.

Jet, Walk & Heli
If you want to make the most of you time up the Matukituki River and get up close and personal to a glacier then enjoy a helicopter flight around Avalanche Glacier before joining the scenic wilderness walk. See hanging valleys where glaciers once lay and waterfalls flowing from beneath the giant ice formations. Experience a snow landing for photos before returning to the jet boat to join the walk. To include the helicopter flight simply book the Jet, Walk & Heli option.

• Scenic 20 minute shuttle drive around Lake Wanaka to the Matukituki River
• 90 minute wilderness jet boat ride up the Matukituki River & 50 minute native bushwalk

Other Information

• Child rates apply (4-14yrs). Not suitable for children under 4 years
• Dress warmly, especially in winter
• Bring with you a warm jacket, sunglasses, camera & sturdy footwear
• Jet boating up river will take approximately 1 hour & the return trip will take about 45 minutes
• Does not operate in June
• If you want to include a helicopter flight over Avalanche Glacier with snow landing simply book the Jet, Walk & Heli option
• Not suitable for pregnant women
• Life jackets & wet weather gear are provided along with warm hats & gloves
• The walk is not difficult. It is relatively flat & suitable for most. If you don't want to do the walk you can sit & enjoy the scenery at the boat
