This self guided kayak tour provides a taste of the breathtaking scenery that Abel Tasman National park has to offer, with an overnight stay at the Mutton Cove campsite along the way.
The 2 Day Abel Tasman Brief Encounter starts at Tata Beach in Golden Bay and finishes with a pick up at Totaranui campsite on the second day (at a pre-arranged time). Before setting off on your adventure, the friendly team at Golden Bay Kayaks provide a safety briefing about kayaking, weather conditions and the area you are about to explore. You are also kitted out with a map, lifejacket, dry bag and safety equipment for the trip. After pushing off from the golden sands of Tata Beach, paddle along the coastline passing interesting rock formations and spotting local wildlife as you make your way to Separation Point.
Separation Point and Mutton Cove campsite is a 3-4 hour kayak from Tata Beach in Golden Bay. After landing at a secluded bay in Mutton Cove, make your way along the Separation Point Track for spectacular views of the meeting point between Golden Bay and Tasman Bay. From here, you can also spend time watching a playful seal colony before making your way back to Mutton Cove to set up camp for the night.
