Description
Kayak the full length of Abel Tasman National Park on a 3 day freedom kayaking trip with Golden Bay Kayaks. Perfect for those with kayaking and outdoor experience, this route starts from Tata Beach in Golden Bay and follows the Abel Tasman coastline past incredible rock formations, islands and wildlife to a pre-arranged pick up point. A minimum of 3 days paddling and 2 nights camping is recommended to make the most of the unforgettable scenery along the way, but for a more leisurely experience you can also choose 4 or more days.
Your multi-day independent kayaking adventure begins with a full safety briefing on the afternoon before your departure at Golden Bay Kayaks. You are then ready to start your journey bright and early the following morning, pushing off from the golden sands of Tata Beach in Golden Bay. The northern end of Abel Tasman is considered one of the best places for kayaking in New Zealand, filled with history & culture, opportunities for wildlife encounters and best of all, a sense of being ‘far from the madding crowd’. With the beautiful Tata Islands as a backdrop, paddle 3-4 hours out towards Separation Point, where you can walk the Separation Point Track for views out over a playful seal colony and the meeting point of Golden Bay and Tasman Bay. In this area, there are a number of DOC campsites that you can pre-book for your first night, including Mutton Cove.
For the remaining days of your 3+ Day Length of Abel Tasman trip with Golden Bay Kayaks, continue making your way down the Abel Tasman coastline to a pre-arranged destination of your choice. Look out for fur seals, native birds and stingrays along the way, just some of the wildlife that call the clear waters of Abel Tasman home. There are a number of beautiful DOC campsites located within an easy distance of the water, which you can book in advance to then bring the booking confirmations with you. At the end of your once in a lifetime adventure, Golden Bay Kayaks will be waiting to pick you up and transfer you back to base at Tata Beach.
