The kiwi encounter portion was the best part. We spent about 2 and 1/2 hours walking through the bush. The kiwi we came across allowed us to observe it for about 35 to 40 minutes.. It came right up to our feet!

Hi !
Thank you so much for your enquiry
Unfortunately, the minimum age for this trip is 15 years old. They have decided on the minimum age requirement, as the trip involves a 2-hour hike, and complete silence throughout the journey as any noises would scare the kiwis.
We are so sorry about this, but please let me know if you would be interested in any of the other activities we offer on Stewart Island such as the Ulva Island explorer & Village & bays tour.

Unfortunately it's not possible to do the Wild Kiwi encounter and head back from Stewart Island to Bluff on the same night. The Wild Kiwi Encounter departs anywhere between 4pm and 8pm depending on the season and takes 4 hours and the last ferry leaves well before this tour finishes.
