Kayaking - Funyaks Queenstown

Q&As

Latest Questions about Kayaking - Funyaks (Queenstown)

Hi

I'm looking to join this tour - however, I need to get to Queenstown Airport by 7pm in the evening on the day I do this. Can you please confirm the time and address that this day tour would end by?

Comments

Thanks for your questions about the brilliant Funyaks and jet boat tour in Glenorchy!  You have the option of taking the Dart River transport to and from Queenstown or you can drive yourself there and back. If you take their transport, you would arrive back in Queenstown between 5&6 pm. If you drive your selves, you would be able to leave Glenorchy as soon as you are ready and you won't need to wait for the rest of the group to be ready.

Should we bring a change of trousers for the day as we probably may get wet on the fun yak tour? Can we leave a backpack dry in the bus?

Comments

When you do the Funyak tour in Queenstown, you will first get changed into our swimwear and you are then provided with a thick wetsuit, booties, spray jacket and life jacket. All your dry clothes are left in a secure locker for you to change in to once you return back to the Funyaks base after your trip is complete. You can also leave any bags and valuables at the Funyaks base. The Funyaks trip does book up in advance so if you can let me know what date you are thinking of booking then I can check the availability for you.

There are 2 of us travelling together. All the promotional pictures show 2 people in the Funyaks but the words seem to indicate each person has there own. Can you please clarify as we would like to be in the 1 Funyak.

Comments

Hi Andy. Yes, if you are travelling as a 2 then you get to share a Funyak together. Everyone doing the Funyaks trip in Glenorchy will be paired up with another person so there are always two people in each Funyak.

May i know how long the kayaking will be?..do you provide halal or vegetarian food for this trip?..is this trip consists of 4wd drive and speed boat?, for speed boat, how long the journey is?

Comments

Hi Radzi, the lunch is a buffet lunch to cater for all so you can pick and choose what you eat. Yes, the trip consists of a 4wd tour, jet boat and kayaking. The jet boat is about 1.5 hours and the funyak portion lasts about 2 hours. The entire Funyak adventure will take about 9 hours if departing from Queenstown.

Hi I am coming to Queenstown in Oct. I will be travelling on my own - is it OK to be solo.

Comments

Hi Carolyn, you certainly can book the Funyaks for one person as they will either pair you up with another person in the group or the guide will go in your kayak.

Hi, we are in Queenstown from 21 - 27 July and my son who is currently 4 will be turning 5 on 21 August. Is he able to participate on the fun yaks with an adult? Thanks

Comments

Hi Carmel, unfortunately the age restriction is strictly 5 for the Funyaks and although they would love to take your 4 year old it is unfortunately not possible for this trip.

We will be visiting in July, and are booked on this tour. How do we dress for this tour?! We are coming in from the states and I am starting to pack!

Comments

Hi Pam, you are provided with life jackets, wet suits, booties and spray jackets from Funyaks but you will also need to bring with you warm clothing including a hat, gloves, windproof outer jacket, sunglasses, swimwear and a towel.

ALready scheduled for 7 Apr. 2012 and curious if any weather gear is provided? Also, is trip cancelled if it rains?

Comments

Hi Lisa. Yes on the Funyaks trip in Queenstown you are supplied with a wetsuit, booties, rain jacket and life jacket and all you need to bring is a small bag with swimwear and a towel. The trip will not be cancelled if its lightly rain but if the weather is pretty bad (ie. its raining heavily) then the jetboats wont be able to operate so the entire trip will be cancelled and you will be able to reschedule to another day or receive a full refund.

Hi
Just wondering if it's possible to arrange for a pick up from our accom at Breakfree The Point 239 Frankton Rd Queenstown.

Also, are there still plenty of places available on 7th April ? we're looking at booking for 3 adults.
Can we secure booking with credit card details and pay closer to the event date

Thank you.

Comments

Hi Jinny. The Funyaks bus can pick up from all local Queenstown accommodation. Sometimes you are required to walk a short distance to the nearest big hotel. In this case, you would be picked up from Oak Shores which is just next door to The Point apartments. There is currently space on the 7th April however this is likely to book up given its Easter weekend. We can only secure your booking once you book and pay online via our website.

Do you have to go on the jet boat on the Funyaks tour or is there another way to get to the start of the Funyaks?

Comments

Hi Erica, yes the Funyaks tour does only offer the jet boat ride to the start of the Funyaks however this is one of the best parts of the day. It is a fast ride with a few spins but is more of a scenic ride through the Dart River as oppose to a thrill seeking journey like the Shotover Jet.

Hi, interested in the Funyak tour. What happens if it's raining?

Comments

Hi Graham, this is a fantastic tour. If there is a bit of light rain then the trip will go ahead. If it is really heavy rain then they will cancel and you will be able to get a refund. I have done this trip in both clear sky days and on a drizzly day and both were amazing. It sounds strange to say that the trip was good in light rain, but the mountains and clouds hanging low over the rivers and mountains makes it look amazing.

Hi there
We are arriving in Queenstown on the 13th Jan for 7 nights and would love to do something like this, what are our chances of getting a booking once we arrive.

Comments

Hi Sam.
The Funyaks has been booking up nearly a week in advance over the busy summer period in Queenstown so I would highly recommend you book before you arrive in town. There is space at this stage during the week starting the 13th January but I suspect it will book out soon.

Hi, me, my husband and 2 gals aged 11 and 12 years are interested to book the Funyaks adventure. Can we book on 27th Dec?. May i know if we are require to wear waterproof shoes. Crocs? slippers? normal swimwear? Will you provide the wetsuit? What are the difference in fees if we drive on our own from hotel to Glenorchy? Any further discounts for 2 adults and 2 childs package?

Comments

Hi Jess, The Dart River Safaris Funyaks is an amazing trip. At the moment there is still space for all of you on the 27th Dec. This is our busiest time of the year so we highly recomend booking in advance. Many days around the Christmas and New Year period are already full. You need to take warm clothes, swimwear and a towel. They will provide you with all the clothing and wetsuits that you will need for the Funyaks, they also supply you with footwear. They provide free transport from Queenstown, but you are more than welcome to drive the 45km to Glenorchy yourself. It is a stunning drive with a few great spots to pull in and take some photos. If you would like to book this trip please go back onto our website and type Funyaks into the search bar.

This trip looks amazing, do we need any kayaking experience to be able to do this trip? We are in our 50's and really keen to see some of the scenery and Lord of the Rings locations in Glenorchy, this looks like a great way to see it with the jetboat ride as well. Is the jetboat ride very fast or scarey?

Comments

Hi Peter. No kayaking experience required on the Funyaks trip mate and you're right, it's a great trip if you want to see some spectacular Lord of the Rings locations and scenery. The jetboat ride is pretty fast and they do a few quick turns but it's more of a scenic jet boat ride through the wide dart river and Mt Aspiring National park compared to the thrilling jet boat ride experienced on the Shotover Jet through the narrow Shotover Canyons.

Hi, How fit do you have to be is there a lot of walking involved as my Mum cant walk to far and not up hills.

Comment by: linda Mordaunt on 5th Dec 14 at 20:50

Hi Linda. There is not a lot of walking at all on the Funyaks trip. The short amount of walking is very flat with no hills at all. It is suitable for all levels of fitness.
