Description
Enter a realm of mystical wonder and walk the same ground as Aragorn, Gandalf, Gimli and Legolas as they did in the Lord of the Rings movie, when they visited the ale hall of Meduseld at Edoras. Stand in awe at the top of the magnificent Mount Sunday and imagine the pride of the Rohirrim (people of Rohan) as the surveyed their territory – the windswept sea of grass hemmed by icy mountains.
The Lord of the Rings Tour departs from Christchurch and takes you to the remote Mt Potts high country station, which contains Mt Sunday – the mountain that was transformed into Edoras for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. You will also see Misty Mountains and the area that formed the backdrop to Helms Deep. Once you see this amazingly beautiful area – with its crystal clear lakes, windswept plains, azure blue rivers and snow-capped mountains – you will understand why this location was chosen to represent the capital city and pride of Rohan.
Upon reaching Mt Potts station (which is only two hours' drive from Christchurch), you will embark on your fully commentated journey via 4WD. Driving through several small streams, you will arrive at Edoras (Mt Sunday) where you can enjoy the short guided walk to the summit before marvelling at the amazing 360º views – just as Eowyn did in the movie. While there, you will enjoy a delicious champagne picnic lunch surrounded by the peaceful tranquility of this magical place.
You will also see Rakaia Gorge, Mt Somers and glacial lakes - Lake Camp & Lake Clearwater on your adventure. As an added bonus, you will have the chance to enjoy behind the scenes photos of Edoras under construction, as well as handle and take photographs with movie replicas – Aragorn’s Sword, King Theoden’s Sword, Gimli’s Axe, Gandalf’s Staff and Flag of Rohan – exclusive to the Lord of the Rings Edoras Tour.
This adventure is a must for Lord of the Rings fans, but you don't have to be a fan to enjoy the amazing scenery.
