The extensive knowledge and skill sets of the crew enabled us to take in the breathtaking beauty of this location and the intimate nature of the small boat , limited customer numbers made it unforgettable .

An incredible tour with great people and even better food - we were concerned when we were booked onto a larger boat than previously booked and placed into a quad, but it all worked out better than anticipated - the nature tour was thoughtful, we learned so much, the kayaking was a blast, we made dear friends in our quad, and we even got to swim in the Fiordland. A trip we won’t ever forget, and well worth the money.

Super nice Crew. Lots of things to do (fishing, kayaking, Dolphin watching, star gazing …). The food was exellent, the bed (bunker) very comfy and I took tons of pictures. Thanks a lot to Jacky, Fraser and Dave!!!

Excellent experience. We weren't too sure whether to spend a chunk of our holiday budget on an overnight cruise, but it was worth every penny. Milford Sound is great for a day trip, but Doubtful Sound offers much more diversity.
The trip starts with a trip across Lake Manapouri, which is fabulous on it's own. The connecting short minibus transfer includes stop-offs at places of interest and viewpoints. The cruise proper then sets off into Doubtful Sound. The crew were brilliant. Very friendly, professional and attentive. Our vessel caters for up to 12 passengers (there were 11 of us). This gave us lots of space to wander around for personal space, or socialise with the other passengers.
You are fed very well, and we never touched the snacks we took along.
We were blessed with perfect weather and loved every moment. Doubtful Sound is beautiful and has countless inlets to be explored. Fishing if you choose, kayaking, and more. The evening we moored, we feasted on freshly caught seafood. Being cloudless that evening, and no light pollution, the night sky was breathtaking.
The whole trip was truly a high point of our holiday. Highly recommended.

We took the Fiordland Expeditions Overnight Cruise - Doubtful Sound. It was AMAZING. The crew was excellent and the scenery and experience were phenomenal. Includes a wide variety of unique experiences: boating through the beautiful fiords, kayaking/swimming, seal-watching, deep sea fishing, crew dove for fresh lobster, epic stargazing, dolphins swimming 2 meters away from us for 15 mintues, and more. It was expensive but the once-in-a-lifetime experience was well worth it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The scenery is jaw-dropping and extremely beautiful ! It was very nice to take this small group as you could definitely enjoy everything to the most. With the friendly crew, l felt I was travelling with my family. Seafood lunch, lobster dinner and warm cooked breakfast, fishes were caught on that day, everything was delicious! Very nice chef ! It was unbelievable the food was from that small kitchen. We also did fishing , kayaking.. quiet and calm surface...so unique trip ! As we travelled in the eve of the New year, we counted down together and did firework on the roof to celebrate with champagnes and wines ! Absolutely it was one of my most unforgettable trips in my life ! It was just so perfect and impeccable !!

Everrything to be totally honest.....from the online booking service which was simply excellent to every tiny detail of the cruise itself. The boat we were hooked on broke down.... we feel it was a blessing. The Sound itself is obviously out-of-control blow-your-mind glorious... and everything else measured up too. Even the weather and wildlife came to the party.....

Onboard Chris and Ellie were both wonderful, the Sound itself is blow-your-socks-off incredible, the boat was super comfortable, the food was simply delicious, the activities kept us on our toes, the company was unexpectedly fabulous, the weather was spectacilar and wild life did its bit to make this 2-day trip a clear highlight of our NZ adventure. Couldnt possibly speak more highly of the experience

Really good arrangements, well organised. The overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound with Fiordland Expeditions was truly amazing. The crew were so competent, personable and good fun and enabled the group to gel and get to know one another. The food was first class and beautifully presented, more like a gourmet restaurant than a boat! The cabins were very clean and comfortable and everything we needed was provided. Nothing too much trouble. The Fishing, kayaking and diving were highlights and the scenery just breathtaking. Thank you.

I have a question regarding the duration of the tour.
In the description, it says the following: "Departure: 10:00am (returns the next day at 9:15am in summer...)". Does that mean that the tour ends at 09:15am back in Manapouri (which would mean quite the early awakening) or is 09:15am the time of departure in Doubtful Sound?

I would say the best choice for 5 people is the bunk room for your 3 children- it's on the top deck with beautiful viewing opportunities of the stars. Then one of the private cabins for you and your husband. I would recommend with an ensuite so the 5 of you can share that if need be, as although the bunk room has a toilet, it does not have a shower and there is only 1 other shower on the boat
How do we get from a hotel in Queenstown to Manapori to board this cruise?

Transfers from Queenstown are not included with this cruise. They may be able to arrange a pick up from Te Anau. You can get a bus there from Queenstown or i would recommend just hiring a car and driving to Manapouri.
