Tours will be led by New Zealanders who are deeply passionate about conservation and the beautiful flora and fauna you will see on this half day walk.

Visitors based in Queenstown have easy access to a rewarding hiking expedition on the Routeburn Track, starting at the Routeburn Shelter. On a half day walk in a small group, you will immensely enjoy Wilderness Guided Walks’ informative commentary on the dramatic river valleys cloaked in ancient beech forests, mosses and ferns and populated by arresting alpine flora and native birds.

Half Day Routeburn Guided Walk
After being picked up at your central Queenstown accommodation, you will drive along the Queenstown-Glenorchy Road with magnificent views across Lake Wakatipu. Once you reach the Routeburn Shelter, you will embark on an easy half-day walk that starts in luxuriant native beech forest. Experience the astonishing richness of native flora and fauna combined with stunning views of lakes and mountains across the Routeburn River. Spot native bird species and listen to their calls on the periphery of the forest. There are also plenty of waterfalls to admire along the way, which provide idyllic rest stops!

Walking time: 2 to 3 hours (optional)
Walking distance: 2 to 5kms (optional - easy walking)
Track: Well-formed, flat surface, some steps
