Description
Experience the breathtaking beauty of Rangitoto Island like never before on a sunset tour with Auckland Sea Kayaks. Embark on an unforgettable adventure as you kayak to Rangitoto, immersing yourself in the stunning scenery and tranquil waters of the Hauraki Gulf. Home to the largest volcano in the Auckland region, Rangitoto Island is one of the city's most iconic landmarks and a must-see while visiting the city.
As you gather on the shores of Auckland, your Auckland Sea Kayaks guides will provide an initial safety briefing so that you feel relaxed and confident as you paddle across Auckland's Waitemata harbour. Throughout the tour, keep an eye out for resident wildlife on the harbour's sparkling waters, including Cooks Petrels and Little Blue Penguins. Then, as you start to approach Rangitoto Island you will marvel at its volcanic landscapes and lush greenery. The island is covered in beautiful native New Zealand forest, which is in fact the largest pohutukawa forest in the world!
At sunset, that's when the magic truly unfolds. Witness the sky slowly transform into a canvas of vibrant colors, casting a warm glow over the island and the glistening sea. The changing dusky hues as you travel through Waitemata harbour and the Hauraki Gulf will create a feeling of bliss, while the sunset view from the summit of Rangitoto Island will leave you totally speechless.
Once you reach Rangitoto wharf, you will have an hour to explore the island on foot. Embark on the Rangitoto Island Summit Walk and learn some of the history and geology behind the island from your knowledgeable Auckland Sea Kayaks guide. The 360 degree views of Auckland are even more spectacular at sunset! The hike is approx 2.5km and rises 270 metres (900ft).
Also included in the Rangitoto sunset kayak tour is a delicious BBQ dinner, which you can enjoy at Rangitoto wharf after your walk. On your return kayak to Auckland, you will be awestruck by the beauty of the diamond-like city lights, reflecting on the glassy surface of the water – simply amazing!
If you would prefer an early morning start, this kayaking tour is also available during the day. Check out the Rangitoto Day Sea Kayak Tour instead.
